Welcome to Abby and Lucy’s blog post! For the past two days we’ve been sailing on the Hammer through the Whitsunday Islands. Here are just a few of the best moments.
- One great moment was when everyone began to dance on the boat to a bunch of fun songs. It was that kind of moment when everyone had a smile on their face. Our personal favorite song was “Hocus Pocus” by Focus where we played air guitar and went wild.
- We snorkeled in many amazing spots along the Great Barrier Reef but the most exciting was snorkeling among three big sea turtles, which was so cool.
- We went on a three-hour hike through a rain forest. Even though it was a little tough, the view at the top was amazing and definitely worth it. Also, on our walk down we saw a huge goanna lizard.
- Our sails through the Whitsundays were so much fun. At first it was scary because the boat was tilted so much that we got splashed and had to hold on to the rails. Overall, sailing made up a lot of the time we were on the boat and we loved every second of it.
- Each night on the trip we were told to take five minutes to be silent and take in our surroundings. We could hear the waves splash against the boat and watch the full moon rise above the mountains. We could see shooting stars across a clear sky, a view one might only see once in a lifetime.
- One day we all went to Whitehaven Beach where the sand was the purest in the world. This beach was so beautiful and the sand is made out of 98% silica. It was so pure that it made a squeaking noise under every step. We also found a secret beach and went swimming with stingrays and baby lemon sharks. We also hiked to a lookout point and saw a beautiful view.
- Mafia has been a reoccurring game throughout this trip. Every night we all gathered on the deck to play under the stars. Within every game came numerous laughs and special moments.
- Every night on this trip we pass an award around to someone who has been kind that day. The recipient of the award then passes it on to someone who has done something kind the next day. This award has been very prevalent throughout this trip and it has been a fun and good way to spread kindness and show gratitude throughout the group.
A special appreciation to the crew members: Zack, Tash, and Jay. They are all so talented in what they do and we’re so grateful to have had this experience with them.
